Are “Enough Numbers”, Enough? Balancing Our Nervous System, Values and Business Growth
For the Worldbuilders Ep. 056
Dear Worldbuilder,
I came back for you. 🎙️ The podcast For the Worldbuilders is back after a month long break and I’m so excited to share today’s episode with you! I recorded it early yesterday morning and found myself floating on a cloud of gratitude for the rest of the day reflecting on all the family, friends, mentors, places, homes, communities, education and glimmers of ancestral wisdom and courage that made this very breath I’m inhaling and exhaling as I type this, possible.
Y’all I had SO MUCH help getting here. And it is from here, inside my intersectional privilege and oppression that I refuse to subscribe to enough numbers because I refuse to be satisfied until more livable worlds are actualized for everyone. Not just me, not just my immediate family, not just my Aunts, Uncles and cousins. But everyone. Everyone. Is this idealistic? Of course, but idealism is the worldbuilder’s posture. We all came here with a basket of gifts that don’t fully belong to us, but were inherited through a divine chain of ancestral wisdom and courage. This world we find ourselves inside of takes, and takes, and takes, and takes and perhaps we owe it nothing in return. But what about the family, friends, mentors, places, homes, communities, education and glimmers of ancestral wisdom and courage that make our breath possible? What do we owe that constellation of care?
Inside Today’s Episode We…
💰 Explore the concept of the “enough number” that we may have heard shared in workshops, YouTube videos, panels and podcast over the years
🌱 Reflect on creative business stewardship from inside intersectional privilege and oppression
🕸️ Ground inside the possibilities of mutual aid as a way of business and life
❤️🔥 Critically interrogate the desire for generational wealth with a commitment to destabilizing the systems behind all these generational curses we are eager to break
🌀 Dive into the self-sabotaging pattern, I found myself in, of burning out of the businesses and jobs I created because the businesses needs would inevitably extend beyond my capacity
🌐 Commit to holding the expansive visions and values informed by abolitionist, black feminist and African spiritualist traditions without compromising the wellbeing of ourselves, the folks we serve and the folks we lead
Perhaps this isn’t even about numbers, perhaps there is no number large enough to pay forward in honor of all we come from. But what would it look and feel like to refuse to put a cap, limit, or ceiling on the abundance that wants to flow through the worlds we’re building? What would it look and feel like to be resourced enough to share that financial abundance as freely as we share our gifts? What would it look and feel like if our income, regulated nervous system, values and spacious time for all the hobbies and people we love weren’t in competition but in collaboration? Let’s reflect on all this and more in today’s episode…
