Whenever I start a new science fiction novel I’m always looking to see how the author is handling the question of labor. How is labor in this world shared? How is it distributed? How is it compensated, if at all? The question of labor is one that often informs our relationships to eachother, our bodies and the ecosystems that hold us. This is why I can’t stop thinking, reading and talking about it.
Admittedly, the title of this episode is a bit tongue and cheek. As I mentioned in the episode, we all have the ability to conjure just as we’ve all cosplayed or “code switched” inside the jobs we’ve held or care work we’ve performed. If we’re honest, so much of our working lives are spent performing. Judgement or shame around this social reality doesn’t serve us. But whether you’re a root worker or manager in a Fortune 500 company (or both), it serves us to ask whose scripts are we rehearsing and whose worlds are we embodying? Are these scripts and worlds in alignment with our values and if not, how can we close the gap?

Or whatever, because truth is…we can be working full-time inside our passion and still be in misalignment with the sometimes uncomfortable and terrifying invitations of our creative spirit and values. My intention behind recording this podcast episode is to invite us to explore how we might bring our full witchy-ness into our work — whatever that work might be. Less about the “what” of what we do and more about the “how”. How do we show up in the fullness of our power, how do we maintain boundaries that support our bodies and how do we refuse to sever ourselves from our spirit for work misaligned with our values? We explore all this and more in today’s episode.
